The AI Digital Artist Rick Dick Subversively Depicting Fashion Industry in Unexpected and Funny Ways
We are living in tremendous times when it comes to fashion and we don’t need to take it always too seriously. That’s why we need artists like Riccardo, aka RickDick. He is a 33 year old boy who has lived in Maremma (Tuscany-Italy) since he was born. He considers himself a lucky child, who always owned a PC and started making his first "drawings" on Paint and his first photomontages for friends, adding writings, graphics, modifying shapes and colours to make simple digital photos into altered images, but from a more cartoonish and often more intriguing visual impact. Graduated in 2018 from the Advertising Graphics Institute, he started working for companies in Tuscany. He dealt with the organization and management of events and advertising campaigns for products, companies, festivals of the place where he lives, Maremma, and he kept creating in parallel photomontages and collages for the simple pleasure of doing it.
What is your origin story related to fashion? When AI became an important player for your digital art?
My origin story related to fashion began when I was a young child. I was always fascinated by the way clothes could be used to express oneself and create a unique look. As I grew older, I began to explore the world of fashion more deeply, learning about the history of fashion, the different styles, and the various techniques used to create garments. So, I began to develop my own unique style, and as technology had advanced, I started experimenting with digital art and fashion design.
You create so much artworks related to fashion brands with an innovative vision. How do you stay so productive? Walk us a little bit through the process inspiration for Rick Owens and China porcelain. What about Balenciaga beauty? Generally speaking, where do you look for inspiration for your art?
My process for creating artworks related to fashion brands starts with researching the brand and its history. I look at the brand's past collections, campaigns, and collaborations to get a better understanding of their aesthetic. I also look at the current trends in fashion and art to see what is popular and how I can incorporate that into my work. Staying productive is all about staying organized and having a plan. I look for inspiration in a variety of places, such as art, architecture, nature, and even everyday objects.
For Rick Owens, I was inspired by the idea of creating something that was both modern and timeless, I was inspired by the intricate patterns and delicate of china porcelain.
I’m always keen on going to art galleries and museums to get a sense of the history of beauty. Additionally, I like to look at street style photos and videos to get a sense of what people are wearing in different parts of the world. Finally, I like to look at social media platforms such as Instagram and Pinterest to get an idea of what people are creating and sharing. All of these sources help me to come up with ideas for my own art.
How do you think AI art can improve a fashion brand (established or emerging)? Do you think big fashion groups should hire AI creative directors for specific collections? Why?
AI art can be a great way for fashion brands to stand out and create unique and innovative designs. AI can be used to create intricate patterns and designs that would be difficult to achieve with traditional methods. AI can also be used to create custom designs that are tailored to a specific brand or collection. I do think that big fashion groups should consider hiring AI creative directors for specific collections, as they can bring a unique perspective and help to create designs that have never been seen before.
How would you define your style? What makes your AI art different? Name is a few brands you would love to collaborate with.
My style is a mix of pop, contemporary and quirky, with a focus on creating eye-catching and impactful designs. My AI art is different because I try to use AI technology to create visually beautiful designs, which also have something to say, something to make you think about, more than just a beautiful image. I would like to collaborate with brands like Gucci, Prada and Balenciaga as they are iconic fashion houses, and they all have a long history of creating beautiful and timeless designs.
Do you define yourself a multi-talented creative? What are your passions, others than digital art?
Yes, maybe I would define myself as a multi-talented creative. In addition to digital art, I am also passionate about contemporary art, design, cinema and music. I love exploring different creative outlets and finding new ways to express myself.
What is the most challenging issue in creating AI art related to fashion?
One of the most challenging issues in creating AI art related to fashion is finding the right balance between creativity and technology. AI technology can be used to create intricate and detailed designs, but it is important to ensure that the designs still have a creative and unique touch. It is also important to ensure that the AI technology is used in a way that is respectful of the fashion industry and its traditions.
