Maïcee on STAR and the Power of Self Expression
Some artists radiate a presence that cannot be manufactured. It is not driven by algorithms or industry polish, but built through instinct, intention, and lived experience. Maïcee exists in that space, shaping a world where music, image, and identity merge into one fluid language.
Moving between Paris and London, she is not simply releasing tracks but constructing a universe defined by control, self-worth, and visual precision. Her latest single STAR reframes what it means to shine. It is not about fame or validation, but about ownership of self, energy, and presence.
Shot and styled in an official collaboration with RED-EYE, this editorial translates that vision into image. Each look extends Maïcee’s world beyond sound, where fashion becomes a language of emotion and intention rather than decoration.
Written during a period of self-doubt, STAR becomes a form of manifestation. It transforms vulnerability into power and turns confidence into a daily practice. For Maïcee, stepping into the role of the main character is not ego-driven. It is a necessary act of survival.
In conversation with RED-EYE, she reflects on building identity across cities, using fashion as an extension of emotion, and creating a visual and sonic language where softness and strength coexist.
Your new single is called “STAR” — what does being a “star” mean to you right now, not in the industry, but in your own life?
For me, being a STAR is the act of loving yourself first. We all know how difficult that daily practice can be, but I wanted this song to serve as a reminder that everyone is an icon, the main character of their own journey. Being a star means knowing your worth so deeply that bad vibes simply pass by without touching you. It’s about walking out the door feeling like an icon, not to impress the world, but as a gift to yourself. It’s feeling capable and unapologetic.
In the lyrics, I say, ‘One slutty walk a day keeps the evil eye away.’ While street harassment remains a massive, systemic issue, that line is about reclaiming our power and our right to the space we occupy.
The irony is that I wrote this song last summer during a period when I wasn’t feeling myself at all. I really feel that manifesting this energy, that I lacked at the time, truly helped me to embody this STAR spirit.
Your aesthetic feels very curated but also very playful. Do you see fashion and visuals more as self-expression or as a game you like to play?
Visuals and fashion are essential extensions of my self-expression, much like my music. To me, they aren’t separate, they are a continuity of a single universe that I’m always trying to complete. With every visual or accessory, I’m releasing a piece of myself that previously only existed in my mind.
There is a natural playfulness to it because I’m bringing fantasies to life; when an idea becomes tangible, it feels like a childhood dream finally blooming into truth. It might sound intense, but I am deeply moved by my surroundings. Finding the perfect harmony between a specific angle, a color grade, a location, a make up, an outfit worn in a certain way, makes me feel entirely content. So, yes I would say it is deeply rooted in self expression, but the fact that we are always evolving makes the possibilities feel infinite, and that’s where the fun part begins.
You spend time between London and Paris, which city feels more like your comfort zone, and which one inspires you the most creatively?
London was a necessity for me. I’ve always been deeply attracted to the energy here so moving here was an obvious next step in my evolution. Even though I’ve only been here for a little over a year, I feel a profound stimulation. The music scene and the aesthetic landscape just fit who I am right now. It’s a city where I feel I have everything to build, and that keeps me in a state of constant discovery where I feel boundless.
Paris, however, remains my sanctuary and my comfort zone. There is a timeless romance and a beauty to it that I’ll never tire of. Crossing the city always feels like a poetic reset for me. Having that balance is essential; Paris allows me to breathe and ground myself, while London provides that electrifying, challenging spark that pushes me into new territories.
What’s something small and personal that still makes you feel like yourself, no matter where you are?
Honestly? Headphones and a good playlist. Music has always had this profound, healing effect on me, that can reach my deepest wounds, and take me to these vivid emotional places. Headphones on, walking through any street, across any landscapes, I’m in my own bubble. Depending on my mood, that bubble might feel nostalgic, melancholic, or completely empowered, but it’s always intense. It is a way for me to reconnect with my emotions, feel them deeply and process everything.
If “STAR” was a person, how would you describe her in three words?
Upfront. Honest. Infinite.
