Unveiling the Unheard Icon: Peter Yee’s First Solo Phygital Exhibition powered by SPIN.FASHION

In the realm of design, there are unsung heroes whose creative fingerprints have shaped our visual landscape without us even realizing it. One such luminary, Peter Yee, the visionary mind behind the Oakley logo and numerous iconic designs that defined the aesthetics of the 90s and 00s, is finally taking center stage in a groundbreaking solo exhibition. But this isn't just any exhibition—it's a "phygital" marvel, a fusion of the physical and the digital, set to dazzle attendees at K11 MUSEA during Art Basel Hong Kong.

In collaboration with the cutting-edge innovators at SPIN.FASHION, Peter Yee is bringing to life a 25-year design archive from his tenure at Oakley. The result is an immersive and interactive experience that transcends the traditional boundaries of exhibitions, thanks to the integration of web3 technologies, mixed reality, and blockchain-based systems.

The exhibition, slated to run from March 28 to April 28 as part of Hong Kong's Art Month, promises to unveil the hidden gems of Oakley's golden age. Visitors will be treated to a digital showcase of never-before-seen sketches, prototypes, and extremely rare limited edition eyewear and watches that have defined an era. What makes this exhibition truly extraordinary is the use of 3D digital twins and Near Frequency Communication (NFC) chips, coupled with blockchain authentication, to bring these artifacts to life in the digital realm.

Peter Yee's vision of design as a connection between the physical, intellectual, and emotional realms is ingeniously reflected in this exhibition. As he states, "I strived to create designs that connect with people physically, intellectually, and emotionally." Now, through the power of technology, these connections are amplified, allowing visitors to tap into the NFC chips with their phones and project items in augmented reality (AR), complete with a spatial-audio guide. Imagine virtually trying on these iconic pieces using the SPIN.FASHION AR Mirror—it's a digital fitting room, transporting you back to the era when these designs first captivated the world.

But the experience doesn't stop there. Visitors can embark on a near-magical journey with a guided Mixed Reality interactive tour using the Apple Vision Pro. It's a modern Renaissance, where technology and art coalesce to offer an unparalleled exploration of Peter Yee's creative universe.

The exhibit is not confined to physical presence alone. SPIN.FASHION's Head of Spatial Design, Mark Balint, has crafted an on-chain phygital asset, ensuring that those unable to join in person can still participate virtually from any corner of the globe through SPIN VR. This democratization of art is a testament to the project's commitment to global accessibility and cultural appreciation.

Lor Albrighi, Co-CEO & Founder of SPIN.FASHION, expresses the significance of this collaboration, calling it "RENAISSANCE 2.0 x Peter Yee": "It's more than an exhibition; it's a celebration of a true cultural treasure with a resonance that spans generations. SPIN.FASHION acknowledges the honor and responsibility that comes with this role, approaching it with the highest dedication".

As the curtains rise on this unprecedented convergence of art, design, and technology, we find ourselves on the brink of a new era in exhibition experiences. Peter Yee's solo phygital exhibition promises not only to showcase his remarkable designs but also to redefine how we engage with the creative process. So, mark your calendars and prepare to step into a world where the past and future collide, guided by the inimitable vision of Peter Yee.
