Diving into Nature's Mathematical Beauty Through Art with Jen Stark

In an engaging interview ahead of the MET Amsterdam conference, we had the pleasure of speaking with the remarkable artist, Jen Stark. Her journey through the world of art is one that transcends conventional boundaries, offering a unique and immersive experience for both her and her audience. Stark's work is characterized by an intricate blend of mathematical precision, natural inspirations, and a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors. Her art creates an otherworldly space, and each piece exudes a sense of wonder.

Born in Miami, Florida, in 1983, Stark's connection to her lush, tropical surroundings has significantly influenced her art. She spent her childhood observing the intricate growth patterns of ferns, the spirals of nautilus shells, and the shapes of galaxies. These natural wonders left a deep impression on her and laid the foundation for her artistic journey.

Stark's work delves into the intersection of math, sacred geometry, and nature, and she draws inspiration from the attractive and repellent properties of colors in the natural world. This is where the enigmatic nature of color comes into play, affecting our moods and guiding us in a dance of attraction and warning. In Stark's words, color is trying to get your attention and tell you something, bring you closer or warn you of something.

"I love using the whole rainbow spectrum because for me, it makes me very happy. So with my work, I try to bring inspiration and joy and help uplift people."

One of the most striking elements of Stark's art is its ability to create an immersive experience for viewers. Stark decided to break free from the traditional confines of galleries and museums, where artworks are off-limits to touch. She yearned to create art that people could interact with, art that would invite viewers to become an integral part of the experience.

In 2021, she achieved this vision with her "Cascade Show" in New York. This immersive exhibition featured six different rooms, some of which were interactive. Stark recalls the delight of seeing both children and adults reveling in her art, playing, and engaging with it. It's moments like these that reaffirm the power of art to bring joy and connection.

Jen Stark's artistic journey has taken her into new frontiers, including the world of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) and interactive projections. In the rapidly evolving digital art landscape, she found a platform to explore her creativity further, introducing animations and interactivity into her art.

Stark's ability to bridge the gap between the organic and the abstract is what makes her art so compelling. Her works often resemble organic, molecular, cloud-like structures, with kinetic, undulating effects that transport viewers into a world of echoing patterns and designs found in nature. Her art is a transcendental experience that leads spectators onto an astral plane.

"So after many years of that, I wanted to make artwork that people could touch. People could feel like they were a part of the artwork, that they could play musical instruments, that they were musical instrument."

Her unique approach to art has earned her a place alongside artistic luminaries like Yayoi Kusama, Sol Lewitt, Tara Donovan, and others. Her work has been exhibited globally, including major shows in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Thailand, and Canada. Stark's success extends beyond the physical realm, as her art has ventured into the digital world through NFTs and interactive projections.

As we eagerly anticipate the MET Amsterdam conference, where diverse artists and innovators will come together, Jen Stark shares her expectation of being an example for aspiring artists. She aims to inspire others to follow their dreams and convey her unique perspective on her artistic journey. Furthermore, she plans to discuss the influence of psychedelics on art, as well as the role of mathematics in her creative process.

In the future, Stark's immersive installations are set to grace Los Angeles, promising an exciting and visually captivating experience. Stark's art is a testament to the power of nature, mathematics, and creativity, and her ability to transport viewers to a realm where the boundaries between reality and art blur.

"Upcoming stuff. We're bringing that Immersive installation, immersive show to Los Angeles. So that'll be next year. So that's like something really awesome to look forward to."

Jen Stark's artistic legacy is a testament to the boundless possibilities of creativity and the captivating experience of art in its most immersive form.

In the realm of art, Jen Stark's work is an ode to the beauty of nature, a celebration of mathematical precision, and a vibrant invitation to an immersive experience. As she continues to evolve her art and inspire the world, we can only anticipate more wonder and enchantment in the realm of creativity.
